paulo coelho: eleven minutes

Paolo Coelho’s Eleven Minutes

“i want you however you want to be wanted.”

whoever said loving was easy? he may not have loved or felt like he was loved, ever. the story revolves around a girl who felt the pain of loving at a very young age and was controlled by this pain all her life. in search for a better life, thinking a better life meant more money which meant happiness and love, Maria went to find her destiny in Geneva. she ended up being a prostitute for the money, for sex, for the dreams that she knew love won’t be of any help. she tried to forget about love and about why she needed someone to love and and that someone to love her back. Until she met the artist. the artist who saw the light in her, the light of hope that there is still fire left for love.

when i read this book, i have created a list of the most beautiful lines that made reading a liesure:

1.” I’ve learned that waiting is the most difficult bit, and i want to get used to the feeling, knowing that you’re with me, even when you’re not by my side.”

2.”Anyone who is observant, who discovers the person they have always dreamed of, knows that sexual energy comes into play even before sex takes place.”

3. “The greatest pleasure isn’t sex, but the passion with which it is practiced.”

4. “Anyone who is in love is making love the whole time, even when they’re not.”

5. “I love you.”

6. “I love you too.”

Hey just dropping by! Welcome to the Blog Davao Network. :) I’ve also heard good reviews about Eleven minutes - attributed mostly to its light regard towards consummate love. I might like it if it levels on with my all time favorite passion book, Kundera’s “Unbearable Lightness of being”.

As I have read this short synopsis, I can say that the book is very interesting to read. And I believe, many people would look forward to it because the topic, LOVE, very much entices people to read such.

I heard some spoilers about this book. They say that this book is Paulo Coelho’s attempt for a sensual novel. And I heard that his attempt is not so successful.
However its not bad to try to read it myself. Let’s see if I have a better judgement towards the story. I am looking forward to read it.

Almost all women i know have enjoyed this book and can relate to it eventhough they swore never had any relationship before(i even know a gay who can relate to this one).Well, it has been a year since i read this book and i hope that my memry serves justice to this masterpiece…For a woman like Maria( who knew love and the pain it could bring),it is quite natural to equate happiness and fulfillment with money. She took comfort in sex and what money could give..until she met the artist who taught her to love again..(and this is where I can relate one of St. Exupery’s famous lines “Perhaps love is my leading you gently back to yourself;not to who i want you to be,but to who you are.)Paulo Coelho tells us that love(or view towards love), like all other human emotion is subject to change.
The story started with “Once there was….” which made it sound like a fairy tale, and when you finish it you can indeed say that it is a fairy tale. With a very different definition of the word FAIRY TALE…My most favorite line in this book is
“He should understand my insecurities, because I’m a woman, I’m fragile, and when I’m in that place, I’m a different person.”

    One of Paulo Coelho’s best.

I haven’t read Eleven Minutes or any of Coelho’s books. My classmates in high school do. I have heard from them that Coelho is really good in writing romance novels. Eleven minutes is about Love and Sex like most romance novels contain. Coelho gave Love and Sex a new meaning. This is a good book to read for those who loved to read romance novels.

this is the first novel i buy with the price money i won in a national competition. paulo coelho had been my favorite writer since i read his novel The alchemist, he just had this concept of looking love in different perspective in his writings. love that was pure yet a matured one. this book just enlightened my views in life that in every beginning there is a happy ending.
if ever anyone can read this comment and want to read this book, just tell me cause i had a copy of this an i will gladly lend it…..

the quoted words are quite heavy. even though it’s short but it so strucking. I think this book is the best book for people who can’t wait for the love of their lives and for those who think that money is everything.

    Very interesting and intriguing.

the book is good. it talks about realities of life. many writers try to avoid topics such as sensuality/sexuality but paulo dared. and infact, the points of the topic were exemplified. read the book.

this entry definitely gives me headache because somehow it reminds me of my past..i think this is only what i can say..,saying “i love you” to your love one is useless if the one who said it can’t fight for it..ouch!,it hurts!damn!

  • cherry orendain said:

i haven’t read any of Coelho’s books, but as i read this entry i could say that reading this book will be fun and quite interesting…it gives me hard time to understand those quoted words…But the line that i really appreciate the most is…, “Anyone who is in love is making love the whole time, even when they’re not.”

The first of his books I have read completely in portuguese. I loved this book! It is brilliant; and about the title: read the book and you’ll know why!
I do not think it was an attempt to a sensual novel by the way. However it has sensual parts in it. But I admire the way he writes like a woman. Amazing how he can do that.
Really recommend this book, one of the best I’ve read of him (the river piedra is also a very good one)
